Runway Modeling Tips for Runway Models

For a runway model, there's nothing more embarrassing than walking on a runway then suddenly falling flat on your face in front of many people. What's worse is that, camera - possessors are present in the event to capture the moment.

To avoid being humiliated in front of many people and in social media sites, runway models prepare a lot prior to a fashion show.

1. They practice walking in high heels.


  You can smirk all you want, but even pros like Campbell, Banks and Klum still practice walking in heels, if possible, practice in heels that they will be wearing during the show. This gives you time to familiarize yourself with your shoes - as you know, every shoe has a different feeling when worn.

2. They practice on the runway


If you can check the runway before the show, that would be an advantage. Familiarizing the environment will ease feelings of tension and will give you confidence to get out there and strut your stuff. Make sure to get a feel of the runway itself - is it too smooth? Is it potentially dangerous? If you feel like there's a possibility you might experience a runway mishap, then strategize to prevent this from happening.

3. They learn multi-tasking


Being on the runway requires a good amount of multi-tasking. Why? Well first of all, you have to remember you are selling clothes. Which means, you have to walk in a way that flatter these clothes most. Second, you have to keep in mind an attitude that fits the clothes you wear. Third, you have to walk in time with the music. Fourth, you have to have proper facial expression. Fifth, you have to be aware of your surroundings and yourself - a lot of models fall because they didn't notice that they are stepping on their dress - this and a whole lot more calls for a model to mentally and physically multi-task.

In truth, falling on a runway is a part of the life of a runway model. Still, to gracefully survive at the end of a fashion show is a goal every model should have.

Runway Models Fall at Naomi Campbell’s “Fashion for Relief” Show

Runway models fall all the time – we’ve seen all those videos in Youtube, right? It’s perfectly normal, though slightly unforgivable, especially if you’ve got the whole world watching you.

But during the “Fashion for Relief” show in Cannes this week (May 16, 2011), the models didn’t just stand up from falling, they did so with a “so-what?” attitude. And it was clear why – because they were walking for a purpose.

The show aimed to raise funds for Japan. After the tragic earthquake, tsunami and nuclear power plant meltdowns, it is clear why hundreds of celebs and industry professionals supported the show with such enthusiasm, even cheering for the runway models that fell – it is because what happened to Japan reflects the pain and suffering that gripped America after hurricane Katrina. It brought the humanitarian out of these luxuriously living celebrities.

The show was a huge success - and I say this not only because Naomi Campbell organized the said show with the help of Hollywood icon Jane Fonda and fellow models Yasmin LeBon and Vanessa Paradis – but because they raised more than 7.3 million dollars!

Campbell, Fonda, Paradis and LeBon ended the “Fashion for Relief” show with big smiles on their faces, dancing around with the runway models. The audience was on their feet, clapping, cheering and feeling elated from the wonderful charity fashion show and the purpose of why there was one in the first place.
