Modeling Success and the City

Modeling success usually happens in the city. The city is the center of businesses and modeling, although much less boring than being in an insurance company and such, is a business as well.

So which Top Modeling City is nearest your home-town?

1. New York City

Of course, The Big Apple makes it to the list because it's literally the center of modeling opportunities. Models flock to New York every year hoping to get into any top modeling agency. Two of the best modeling agencies in the world are Elite and Ford, both based in New York but also have offices all throughout the world. In this city, you can pursue all types of modeling - High Fashion or Editorial, Petite, Plus, Parts, Older, Ethnic, Glamour - name it, they've got it!

New York City is located in the New York state and is nearest to Vermont, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

2. Los Angeles

Although The City of Angels is best known as the "Entertainment Capital of the World" because it leads in creating films, TV productions and music records, it is also a top destination for someone who is trying to pursue both modeling and acting. After all, many casting agents and modeling agencies can be found in LA. Also, lots of auditions for commercial ads, TV shows and movies are held in this city.

Los Angeles is in California and is the modeling city nearest to you if you are living somewhere in Nevada, Arizona or Oregon.

3. Las Vegas

Under bright lights and behind casino doors are opportunities for every model. The most popular type of modeling in Sin City is glamour modeling, showroom modeling and promotional modeling. If you want to live in the middle of the desert and stand beside hot cars while rich guys surround you all night, this city is your perfect fit.

Las Vegas is in Nevada, near to Utah, Arizona and Idaho.

Ready to head out to the city? Not so fast. Of course, you would have to prepare yourself - with so many modeling opportunities comes so many scam agencies and con artists. You need to be able to distinguish the difference between legit and bull. If not, you might end up broke and job-less. And most of all, patience is needed if you want to move out into these cities. Modeling success can't be achieved overnight, you know.

Actor Auditions to Get into Broadway

Actor auditions for Broadway are plenty. Just type in any Actors Union website or Broadway casting website on a search engine, hit the search button, and you will find millions of results.

Broadway is always looking for new talent. However, they never settle for mediocrity. That's why it is important to maximize your talents in order to get noticed by Broadway casting directors.

When auditioning for Broadway plays, you must remember the following:

  • Check the things needed for the auditions: what songs to sing? what scenes to memorize? will you be asked to dance?
  • If they are asking for you to sing something in specific, then practice it beforehand.
  • If they did not let you know what songs to sing, then you are free to choose whatever you want. But the best thing to do here is to choose a song that is of the same "feel" as the show you are auditioning for.
  • Memorize at least 32 bars of the song you are going to sing.
  • Read the play. Understand the characters. This will help you bring more feeling to the lines you are about to read.
  • Sometimes casting directors will put you to the test through "cold reading" or reading lines that you haven't previously rehearsed. This will help casting directors see if you can still act, understand and deliver lines well even only after a few seconds or a minute of preparation.
  • You might be asked to do a monologue, so prepare one.
  • If you were notified that you are required to prepare a dance routine, be sure to wear clothes that you can move freely in as well as proper dancing shoes.
  • Be polite to everyone in the auditions.
  • Arrive at the auditions early, ideally, 15 minutes before the time of the audition. This will help you adjust to the environment and prepare yourself.
  • Bring your resume and headshots. Prepare at least 3 copies of them. Casting directors like to look at them before you are asked to go on stage.
  • Walk into the audition with confidence.

Auditioning for Broadway is a tough challenge that hundreds of people are willing to take. Actor auditions for Broadway must be paired with training, preparation and most of all... talent. And to truly succeed, you must be persistent. So even after multiple auditions and zero roles casted for you, you have to keep trying. The Broadway world opens its doors to those with immense talent and passion if they knocked hard enough.

How Do Talent Agencies Work?

Talent Agencies are businesses that help talented people find work and maybe become well-known in the world of fashion, commercial advertising, modeling, stage theater, TV and entertainment as a whole.

What is a talent agent's job?

A talent agent's job is to represent their talents and find jobs for them. Usually, they get you into auditions or mail out your headshots to casting directors so that you can book a job.

Other times, casting directors and other business clients go to talent agencies to look for models, actors, personalities, etc to represent or endorse their products.

Talent agents/ agencies have 2 clients, and that is you (the actor or talent) and they (the casting directors, companies, businesses, advertising agencies looking for talents to sell/represent/endorse their products through commercial ads).

How do talent agencies earn money?

Most of the time, talent agencies/ agents get 10% to 15% of their talent's earnings. So for example, an actor gets $900 from doing a commercial ad, you multiply that by 0.10, the result is 90. In short, the agent gets $90 from an actor's 900-dollar project or job (if the agency charges 10% commission).

Talent agencies must be licensed to operate. Licensure is important in order to protect actors' rights - scam agencies tend to over-charge their talents for doing jobs - and the rights of the talent agency itself.

Who knows who ...

You stand a very good chance of finding representation if you actually know someone who knows a talent agent. Most of the time, talent agents don't just agree to see an aspiring actor unless he has already done lots of acting work in the past. However, talent agencies value recommendations very much, especially if it is from the people they know or trust. So for example, a photographer who took your headshot thinks you have great potential and knows someone from a talent agency, you can ask him to recommend you or introduce you. Networking and connections is highly valuable in this business.

Despite the tough competition, you must really keep trying in this business. Most successful artists and actors of today never succeeded in their first tries. Most of them had to mail out hundreds of headshots to talent agencies before they could actually get represented. So don't you ever give up, especially if you think that this business is really where you ought to be.

Child Actor - Do You Love Acting?

Children are idealistic, enthusiastic and uninhibited in general. So when they dream of something, like becoming a child actor, while they are young, you can be sure that it is because they love it - all the other factors like money or prestige mean next to nothing.

To be able to succeed in the business as a child actor, you need, first and foremost, the permission of your parents.

Why Do You Need Your Parent's Permission?

When you're a child, sometimes you see things differently, which is sometimes a good thing but can also lead you to trouble. That's where parents come in - they can tell if something is not right or not good for their children. So that's why it's important to have them around especially when you're making a big decision for your life - like wanting to move to the big city to become an actor, for example.

Another thing is, no matter where you are in this world, it is a universal rule that children who work (like, working as an actor) without the permission of their parents or guardian is illegal.

You Need to Develop Your Acting Skílls

Of course, when you get to the city to audition for a certain role, you have to be prepared. Casting directors love talented children, that's why if you train up and do very well in your audition, they will love you and therefore, give you a chance to fulfill your ultimate dream.

How to Develop Your Acting Skills

1. Get acting experience. Start small, like joining school plays or entering oratorical contests in your school. This could help you improve both your facial and voice acting skills as well as facing the crowd.

2. Talk to yourself in front of the mirror everynight. Imagine different situations and react to these situations while looking at yourself in the mirror. Memorize the muscles in your faces that you need to use to show different emotions like anger, happiness, guilt, shame, jealousy, confusion and more.

3. Read some script from plays or even books and practice memorizing the lines that the characters say. To be a good actor, you have to be able to remember your lines.

Some of the best actors that we see in movies or TV today began as child actors. Most of them experienced being turned down in auditions many times but they never gave up. Remember that rejection is a part of an actor's life and if you want to succeed in this business, you have to be willing to embrace it but never let it discourage you from pursuing your dream.

Fashion Photographers - Model Must-Knows

Fashion photographers are essential to the industry. The world of fashion rely on these people to contribute creative input to sell a product, particularly, high-end clothing. And models depend on photographers to make them look good in photos.

It takes unique artistic vision to become a successful fashion photographer. After all, a fashion photographer's job doesn't only involve taking pictures all day but they also have to embody the concept or inspiration behind the clothes that they are trying to sell.

  • Models should know that photographers don't always do the job.
There are photographers that instruct models to "look this way and put your hands up like that" but not all the time - models still have to think of ways to convey the right message to the public through their body language and facial expression.

  • Models should know that photographers don't like wasted frames.
Professional photoshoots are very expensive and it makes a photographer frustrated if none of the photos he has taken "fits" with the idea and clothing that they are trying to sell to the public. This is why it is important for a model to do a fiercely great job during the photoshoot.

  • Models should know that photographers don't like unprofessional models.
And by "unprofessional", we mean, bratty, self-absorbed stick-thin figures who arrive 2 hours late for a photoshoot. Making a good impression for a high fashion photographer is just as important as impressing clients or agents or booking a job. Remember that photographers have a lot of connection as well and if they like working with a model, chances are, they will always keep that model in mind whenever a project comes up. Meaning, the model will be hired over and over and over again.

The world of fashion is like a well-oiled machine - everyone needs eachother to make everything work. Models need photographers and photographers need models, so it is important to create good relationships with eachother. Once you understand how fashion photographers work, you will find it easier to deal with them - and even make friends with them.

Male Fitness Models Diet

Bodies of male fitness models with six-pack abs grazing magazines are enviable to men and attractive to women. But as pleasing as a ripped abs is to the eye, the amount of dedication and hardwork needed to achieve this kind of body is incredible.

Muscles don't just grow out of nowhere. To be able to have that chiseled figure, you need to follow a strict diet and a work-out program.

1. Work-out

The best option you have is to sign up for a gym. Most gyms have different work-out programs that are structured according to what kind of body their clients would like to achieve.

If you would rather do your work-out at home, though, you can do sit-ups using exercise balls and lifting weights. You can also do push-ups to tone your chest and arms.

Don't forget to warm-up before working-out to prevent straining your muscles and other muscle injuries!

2. Eat Protein-Rich Foods

When you're working out, you lose protein from your body (this is why you lose weight). And since you need protein in order to get ripped, you have eat foods rich in protein like lean meat, fish, chicken, cheese, milk products and nuts.

3. Lower Your Carb In-Take

Carbs make burning fat slower and this may strain you a little bit and slow down your progress. That's why you have to limit your in-take of carbohydrate-rich foods like cereals, pasta, wheat, bread and foods rich in sugar.

Achieving the body of a male fitness model is very difficult but if you truly commit to it and have a strong will power to see results in your own body, you will achieve it.

What Talented Teens Should Know

What talented teens should know is that there is a world out there waiting to be wowed! But at the same time, it’s difficult to grab the world’s attention and make them listen to you sing or watch you dance or read your poetry. After all, the world is distracted with wars, calamities and famine… But then you think, “all the more reason to share my talent”, right?

“Success comes when preparation meets opportunity.”

And this rings true for almost every successful actor, singer, dancer, writer, musician, etc.

If you have talent, the very first thing you must do is to mold it – compare it to a diamond, which doesn’t really sparkle until it has been cut and polished. Cut out the bad habits that might affect your talent and polish it – take classes, learn all about your craft and become the master of it. Once you feel that you have become stronger in utilizing your talent, you will feel more confident. And confidence is a seductive character that makes the world turn towards you.

“Failure is delay, not defeat”

But what if you have prepared and found the right opportunity and took your stab at it but failed? Rejected?

Don’t you fret – in this case, take constructive criticism. Ask an honest friend what he or she thinks of your performance/piece of work. This way, you will know what things to avoid next time. Cut and polish, cut and polish. This is all you can do to do better next time.

In time, with lots of perseverance and passion towards your craft, you will be able to knock on the right door and will be welcomed inside with open arms. Also, who knows? You might become the inspiration for success of other talented teens someday.
